A bloke’s casual bedtime chat with his three-year-old son has sparked a spooky Twitter thread about kids that seem to remember their past lives.
Comedian and podcaster Dan Schreiber tweeted: "Interesting bedtime chat with my 3-year-old tonight – 'Daddy, I had a family a long time ago & my mummy was called Sochi & I was called Anke but then I died & now I’m with your family.'"
Clearly freaked-out, Dan continued: "Anyway, if anyone needs me, I’ll be up cleaning the pants I just s*** for the rest of the night."
Lots of Twitter users replied to Dan’s tweet with similar experiences of their own.
Call the Midwife star Stephen McGann replied: "Very similar conversations when my son was very young. He used to say 'when I was Andrei…' – then one day, he was watching the cartoon Anastasia, and pointed calmly and said 'There – that's where I lived when I was Andrei' Kids are spooky…"
Podcast producer Andrew Harrison added: "Friend of a friend noticed a little facial twitch in her small daughter, and said, 'you looked just like my mummy when you did that'."
Her daughter replied: "I was your mummy…"
Sarah Cloys contributed a chilling tale: "My niece did this. Told us how she was sad to die in the water and leave her old mommy and daddy but was happy to have us now."
Julia Brannan told her own spine-chilling story.
"When I was a child I used to talk to my mum about things we did together when we were children," she said.
"I also had a memory of a view from a window, which mum later told me was the sanatorium her sister was in the 1940s. I was born on the anniversary of her date of death."
Another person chipped in: "My mum and sister were in a taxi with my nephew when he was about 3. He pointed at a branch of Claire's Accessories and said, ‘when I was a big boy & I was a fireman I used to go in that pet shop…"
At which point, apparently, the stunned taxi driver almost crashed, saying that it had been a pet shop when he was a small boy.
Dan told the Daily Star that after the initial spooky outburst his son Wilf carried on talking about his previous family for several minutes.
"I got my phone out and started audio recording him," he said.
"My wife and I asked him questions for about 10 mins. He named everyone in the family, said they lived by the seaside."
While Dan says he has never discussed reincarnation with Wilf he has been to Tibet and interviewed monks that believe in reincarnation.
He added that his "dad used to chauffeur the Dalai Lama’s personal monks".
"But I genuinely don’t think I’ve mentioned anything like this around him," Dan told us.
"Otherwise, I can’t think of anything he would have watched recently that deals with reincarnation either. Unless Paw Patrol did an episode about it that I missed."
He says that his podcast The Cryptid Factor, in which he talks "about the weirdness of the universe" with fellow comedian Rhys Darby, will definitely be covering Wilf’s haunting outburst in a future episode.
