This is the moment basketball and cartoon fans have been waiting year for: A LeBron James Space Jam sequel is finally in the works, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Ryan Coogler will direct it, and James said he “loved” Coogler’s vision for Black Panther and is eager to see how he can transform that into a cartoon movie for kids.

“The Space Jam collaboration is so much more than just me and the Looney Tunes getting together and doing this movie,” says James, “It’s so much bigger. I’d just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don’t just give up on their dreams. And I think Ryan did that for a lot of people.”
Considering speculation about a LeBron Space Jam movie has been floating around for what seems like forever, rumors about will or will not be included in the movie are probably going to exist until it finally hits theaters in a couple years.
And we here at For The Win are adding our own two cents about elements we’d love to see incorporated from Michael Jordan’s original and things that can stay in the past.
What the new Space Jam should definitely include…
1. The self-deprecating humor
The original Space Jam joked about Michael Jordan’s hiatus from the NBA while he tried to be a baseball player, and there’s something endearing about the greatest basketball player of all time recognizing he’s not great at everything. It’s good to laugh at yourself.
LeBron’s got a great sense of humor – which was on display even when the Cavs were on their way to getting swept in the NBA Finals this year – so it’d be great to see him or the movie make jokes at his expense. He could make fun of the suits-with-shorts look, “The Decision” or the time he said the Miami Heat were going to win seven NBA titles.
