Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov: Explosive clash smashes UFC PPV record

The fight that has been surrounded by more controversy than any other bout in the sport’s history has also produced the highest PPV numbers.

McGregor’s rematch with Nate Diaz in August 2016 held the previous record with 1.65m tuning in for the showdown.

Now the Irishman has helped smashed that again with 2.4m purchasing last Saturday’s extravaganza in Las Vegas.

McGregor lost to Khabib after he was forced to tap-out when the Russian got him in a rear naked choke in the fourth round.

A brawl erupted within seconds of the finish where Khabib jumped out of the cage to attack Notorious’s training partner Dillon Danis at ringside.

McGregor was also involved in a scuffle in the cage that saw him strike a member of Khabib’s team.

Both fighters are looking at possible long term suspensions from the sport and the Russian still hasn’t received his £1.51m fight purse.

The controversy started between McGregor and Khabib when Nurmagomedov confronted Conor’s friend and fellow MMA fighter Artem Lobov in a hotel corridor in New York.

After seeing the incident on social media, McGregor travelled to the Big Apple with his team to confront Khabib at the UFC 223 press conference earlier this year.

McGregor was seen smashing a UFC bus window with a dolly injuring fighters.

That attack lead to McGregor receiving community service and an anger management course.

The footage of the incident was used in the build up to UFC to help sell the fight with Khabib.

Both fighters have been suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission as they investigate the shocking scenes that occurred on Saturday.
