Glorious Goodwood returned on Tuesday with it’s typical style, as Stradivarius shoneand showed his class as he defied Torcedor to win the Group 1 Goodwood Cup.
The John Gosden four-year-old claimed victory in the opening day’s feature race with a half-length victory in a thrilling encounter.
On Wednesday one of the flat season’s most iconic events continues, with the Qatar Sussex Stakes the highlight of the day, with prize money of £1million on offer.
Last year Here Comes When reigned supreme, the 20-1 shot taking victory in the mile-long Group 1 race.
This time around, all eyes are on the unbeaten Without Parole, a three-year-old bay son of two-time Sussex Stakes winner Frankel; Expert Eye is expected to rival the favourite.
Without Parole will have a new partner in the saddle, as Andrea Atzeni stands in for the suspended Frankie Dettori.
He’s a gorgeous looking horse and, for a son of Frankel, very laid back, very cool and uncomplicated. He’s a great ride to get.
"I spoke to Frankie about him and you can literally put him anywhere in a race. He doesn’t pull, stays the trip very well, is unbeaten and having had only four runs can only get better. They went a strong gallop at Ascot and it was a proper Group 1. He travelled good and was very tough."
So can he emerge victorious? And who else are the best bets on day two?
