But Wolves are still expected to land Jonny for a club-record £18million fee after he impressed during the first six months of his loan.
The former Celta Vigo man only joined Atleti last summer for an undisclosed fee.
But he was immediately shipped out to Wolves with the view of replacing Filipe Luis for the 2019/20 La Liga campaign.
However, Atletico are now on the verge of selling Jonny for a tasty profit.
And the player apparently feels that was their plan all along.
Jonny is said to be upset about being used as a bargaining chip.
Marca adds he has accepted the decision, although he is extremely disappointed as he was expecting to be playing for Diego Simeone next season.
A number of agents are believed to have been working on the deal, effectively forcing Jonny into a corner he can’t back out of.
