Man United ‘prepare world record bid’ for Harry Maguire before deadline

Manchester United are reportedly preparing a late move for Harry Maguire ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Jose Mourinho is determined to strengthen at the back before the window slams shut and the Leicester star is seen as a priority.

The Red Devils are aware that it will take a world record fee for a defender, claim Sky Sports, currently set at £75m by Liverpool for Virgil van Dijk.

Their interest in Toby Alderweireld could be reignited if the Foxes rebuff their efforts, though Maguire is seen as the priority.

Leicester will be able to command a monster fee if they do decide to sell after Maguire’s excellent World Cup in Russia.

The 25-year-old also has four years remaining on his contract, with Leicester also banking £60m from the sale of Riyad Mahrez, meaning United will have to table an offer they simply cannot refuse.
