PGA Championship: Brooks Koepka picked perfect time to dunk on Brandel Chamblee

Brooks Koepka has found motivation from his harshest critic.

Koepka has recently been targeted by Golf Channel’s Brandel Chamblee, who claimed Koepka’s weight loss for the ESPN Body issue was careless, and then he left the major champion off the list of those Tiger Woods should be worried about at the Masters. (Koepka finished tied for second behind Woods.)

“Telling me I wasn’t tough,” Koepka said during a press conference Sunday. “That pissed me off. That really pissed me off.”

Koepka showed exactly how tough he was, as the seven-shot lead he held at the PGA Championship was whittled down to one after four straight bogeys on holes No. 11-14 at Bethpage Black. Koepka held off Dustin Johnson by two strokes in the end to claim his second straight PGA Championship title.

Koepka had previously retweeted a photo of Chamblee with a clown’s nose on, but chose not to name him Sunday.

“I think we all know [who I’m talking about],” Koepka said.

After the victory, Chamblee admitted he was wrong about Koepka.

“He’s handled it mentally. He’s handled it physically. He’s handled it technically. Which is exactly what Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods did,” Chamblee said. “He’s made a believer out of me.”
