Race-by-race guide and tips for Gunnedah on Tuesday

Track Good 3 and Rail True, so should play mainly on-pace.

Race 1 MAIDEN HCP (1000m):

One of three first-starters Gulgong-trained 10. Smart Moove looks hard to stop from the inside draw and off an impressive trial win from outside the leader at Newcastle. Stable shrewd with placement of youngsters.

Dangers: Muswellbrook entire 6. Magic Richard was easily run down at big odds leading at Tamworth, but back in trip suits, and had previously trialled well; while big watch on Scone filly 9. Pervenche who hasn't been seen for seven months and no official trial, but from a smart yard and draws nicely. Muswellbrook mare 12. Bushie's Crumpet looks well placed fourth-up but draws a wide barrier.

How to play it: Smart Moove to win.

Race 2 F & M BM 58 (1000m):

Tricky little race, but Tamworth mare 7. Finne Realta resumes over the right trip with rider's claim. Despite not winning last prep, was always around the money and solid in the market, including a heavily-backed close second at Grafton in CL2 company.

Dangers: Scone mare 5. New York Philly comes back from a tougher Randwick Highway and has the inside gate; while Gilgandra mare 1. Sugar Lane has won her last two, the latest at BM 66 level, but goes up sharply in weight.

How to play it: Finne Realta to win and quinella 5 and 7.

Race 3 C, G & E BM 58 (1000m):

Mudgee 5YO 4. Redirect looks primed second-up and down in weight. Found the line nicely resuming for strong stable at Gilgandra and draws to get a lovely run in behind the speed.

Dangers: Local 1. Jazzee Nic is the clear threat after finishing hard in a BM 58 at Inverell. That was first run in a month and performed well against stronger earlier last year. Tamworth-trained 2. The Mont has also been freshened after failing at Scone. Form early in the spring was strong for a race like this, and gets 3kg claim from the fence draw.

How to play it: Redirect to win and box trifecta 1-2-4.

Race 4 MAIDEN PLATE (1300m):

Fairly wide affair, but if Newcastle 3YO 7. Magic Charlee gets any luck from the wide barrier, he's the one to beat off the debut run at Scone where he had little or no luck, but still charged home from a mile back into a place. Will need early cover and pick runs, but leading rider sticks.

Dangers: US-bred 3YO Scone filly 11. Normality has been given plenty of time and was impressive in a recent trial win jumping straight to the front from a wide gate. Stablemate to 7. and well-bred filly 10. Itz Lily has trialled okay and should get a nice trailing run from the barrier. Another Scone filly 14. Queens found the line nicely at Tamworth off a month-long break and has enough ability to be in the finish.

How to play it: Magic Charlee to win and box trifecta 7-10-11-14.

Race 5 MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):

Higher quality maiden and very keen on Mudgee 4YO 5. We Can't Be Beaten getting out to the mile fourth-up. Hit the line hard in his last couple, including a close second under 59kgs behind talented The Warlord on Mudgee Cup day. Leading rider jumps back on and ready to break the duck.

Dangers: Scone mare 7. Artefiori has been fair to the line in good quality maidens this prep, and went back to the trials in preparation for this longer and more suitable distance. Expect improvement from Newcastle filly 13. I'm Kate at third start after being specked in the market behind a nice horse at Gosford over this trip; while Armidale filly 12. Chance Of Rain flew home in a weaker maiden at Inverell and gets a cosy run midfield from an inside draw.

How to play it: We Can't Be Beaten to win and trifecta 5/7-12-13.

Race 6 GJC SUMMER CUP (1600m):

Feature race, with plenty of chances. Mudgee-trained 3. George Two is a lightly raced 5YO still on the way up. Was strong to the line in three straight runs at Dubbo before powering home to win a weaker CL2 at Bathurst last start. Drawn to get a cosy run.

Dangers: Scone 4YO 1. Reward The Chaser has the quality and comes back from a much stronger metro Highway, but up significantly in weight. Local mare 7. Bring The Joy has won two of her last three and drops in weight, but this is tougher; while Tamworth 7YO 2. Cricklewood had been building nicely before easily winning last start in a weaker BM 58, but has leading rider steering from a good draw and is way over the odds. No question 4. St Luke has the form and ability to win this, but goes up sharply in weight and draws a tough gate.

How to play it: George Two to win and quinella 1 and 3.

Race 7 CL3 HCP (1300m):

Despite the huge weight and extra trip, Nyngan-trained 1. Thermosa can make it three straight. Again box seats just behind what looks a moderate speed and pounces early in the straight.

Dangers: Tamworth mare 4. Duble Gaze was out the back resuming at Armidale and had little or no chance, but finished off nicely, and this is far more suitable for a lightly raced 4YO who can reeling off a fast final 400m; while keep a big watch on Dubbo mare 12. Handful Of Aces who found the line nicely resuming at Gilgandra and will again be powering home under a light weight over a more suitable journey at big odds.

How to play it: Thermosa to win and Handful Of Aces each-way.
