As Nick Saban launched into another one of his patented don’t-ask-me-about-this-again temper tantrums Saturday night, this time with ESPN’s Maria Taylor, the word that stood out most is “respect.”
“Well, I still like both guys,” Saban responded when Taylor asked the inevitable and quite fair question about what answers his quarterbacks had provided against Louisville after an offseason shrouded in mystery about who would start.
“I think both guys are good players. I think both guys can help our team, alright? So why do you continually try to get me to say something that doesn’t respect one of them? I’m not going to. So quit askin’!”
The words alone, of course, don’t quite paint the full picture. Saban started out answering the question normally until his tone and volume changed, his hands flailed and he glared at Taylor with something bordering on rage, as if to bully her out of asking a follow-up about the ongoing debate between Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts.
