Kevin Malcuit is a major target for Southampton ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.
Saints have made the Lille full-back a top target and look primed to fend off major competition to land his signature.
Napoli are also keen, but Mark Hughes’ side have made a bigger offer, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
The 27-year-old only just joined Lille from Saint-Étienne last summer for £8m, meaning any sale will likely be close to double that given the player has four years remaining on his deal.
Newcastle, West Ham, Fulham and Inter Milan have all been linked to Malcuit in recent months.
But Saints look to be the favourites to sign the Monaco academy graduate.
Hughes managed to guide Saints to safety just in time last term, with a 17th place finish three points above the drop zone.
Now he will be hoping to build on their late run with the summer additions Jannik Vestergaard, Mohamed Elyounoussi, Angus Gunn and Stuart Armstrong to bolster their squad.
