Wednesday is coming to Netflix on November 23 and the series follows the eponymous Addams Family member as she starts at a new school. The teen finds herself at the centre of a murder mystery as she learns about the school’s disturbing past. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about Jenna Ortega, including her age.

How old is Jenna Ortega?

Actress Jenna says she has often been compared to Wednesday Addams, and she puts this down to being “very dry and monotone”.

She watched the Addams Family films when she was just nine years old and connected with the character.

Ahead of her latest role, the American actress appeared in Jane the Virgin, Stuck in the Middle and Elena of Avalor.

Her most recent TV roles were in the second season of Netflix’s You and the Netflix film, Yes Day.

She was born in California and is the fourth of six children.

The actress was born on September 27, 2002, making her 20 years old as of 2022.

Her father is Mexican and her mother is of Mexican and Puerto Rican ancestry.

As she has been an actress since she was a child, she did not have a typical high school experience.

She had become interested in acting from the age of six and by the age of eight, she began receiving auditions.

The star made her acting debut in 2012 with a guest appearance in the sitcom Rob.

One of her biggest breakout roles was playing the lead role of Vada in The Fallout.

The star said she was excited to explore her heritage in the Wednesday series and spoke passionately about Latina culture.

She said: “Honestly, a big part of the reason why I did the show in the first place is because Wednesday is a Latina character, and that’s never been represented.

“Any time that I have an opportunity to represent my community or give other girls that look like me some relatability or connection on screen, I think that’s really important.

“Not only just for building confidence and self-esteem, but for anybody who has a creative mind or is an artist of some sort.

“So that’s why I did this job, because I want that to be seen. Plus, I love Wednesday.”

She was also excited to portray Wednesday as a teenager, which is something viewers are not used to seeing.

She said: “Wednesday is currently a teenager, and we’ve never seen her as a teenager before.

“Her snarky, snide remarks might not necessarily sound as charming when they’re coming from somebody who should probably know better than a 10-year-old girl.

“That was a balancing act. We didn’t want to make her sound like every other teenage girl, but we also didn’t want to make her too ignorant.

“And we’ve never seen her on screen this much.

“Any other time you’ve seen Wednesday, she’s been the one-liner, the end of a joke, she always hits it, and I think that’s what people really love about her.

“But in this show, every scene is Wednesday. There’s an opportunity to give her a bit more dimension, and she becomes a bit more of a real person, which I don’t think we’ve ever seen before.”

Wednesday has always been in a rebellious phase, but she is especially rebellious toward her parents.

Viewers will see how she tries to break away from the clutches of her family in the series.

Wednesday airs on Netflix on November 23.
