Paul Hollywood discusses 'tricky' Bake Off move to Channel 4

Baking expert Paul Hollywood has spoken out about some challenges the cast faced while filming The Great Celebrity Bake Off. The star-studded Channel 4 spin-off show is usually hosted by comedian Matt Lucas. However, Paul has revealed Matt briefly had to take over a contestant’s role following an unexpected twist.

In a recent interview, Paul opened up about difficulties during the filming of The Great Celebrity Bake Off.

The culinary star confessed the show had a last-minute presenting change during one episode.

Paul explained Little Britain icon Matt was due to present the show but had to step in as a baker instead.

When a celebrity contestant pulled out of the show at the last minute, Matt stepped up to the cooking challenge and took their place.

As a result of the dramatic change, Paul said Matt’s nerves started to show.

Noel Fielding was on hand to present the episode in Matt’s brief absence.

The judge confessed Matt let his nerves get the better of him when he had to compete in the iconic Bake Off tent.

Paul explained: “He got upset because something had gone wrong and it’s funny how it affects people.

“It did get to him. He was in a friendly environment but he was really nervous, bless him,” he added.

However, Paul’s fellow Bake Off judge Prue Leith was more diplomatic about Matt’s attempt at being a contestant.

“He didn’t do badly,” she told The Mirror, reflecting on Matt’s baking efforts.

The new series of The Great Celebrity Bake Off is set to begin on Channel 4 on Tuesday, March 22.

The star-studded baking competition is all in aid of Stand Up to Cancer.

A wide range of famous faces will have their aprons at the ready as they take part in the show this year.

The special charity edition of the show will be a five-part series with new celebrities taking part in each episode.

The first week will feature TV presenter Emma Willis, radio DJ Clara Amfo, actor Blake Harrison and comedian Alex Horne.

Other stars set to appear later in the series include Annie Mac, Ed Gamble, Ruby Wax, Laura Whitmore, Sir Mo Farah and Ellie Goulding.

Each episode will see the contestants undertake three culinary tasks in the iconic Bake Off tent.

The challenges will be the signature, the technical, and the iconic showstopper.

The Great Celebrity Bake Off premieres Tuesday, March 22 at 8pm on Channel 4.
