BBC Breakfast star John Watson has returned to the red sofa following his knee injury that left him hospitalised.

The presenter sat alongside Tuesday's (May 2) hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent as he delivered the latest sports updates to fans across the country.

"John's here with the sport this morning," said Jon. "More mobile than I was expecting! I thought you were going to be struggling after your op."

Wasting no time, John responded: "Back to it, back to it."

"Are we starting with John's injury," asked Sally, 51, before her co-star added: "Yeah injury update!"

But the presenter swiftly moved on as he started discussing Luca Brecel's huge win in the World Snooker Championship.

John was rushed to hospital on Friday (April 28) after suffering from a nasty knee injury, updating his followers on his social media page.

Sharing a photo of himself lying in his hospital bed, the TV star could be seen wearing a medical gown with a huge bandage on his leg.

John revealed he tore his meniscus, damaging the cartilage between the bones in his knee and had undergone an operation to fix it.

Seeing the light-hearted side of the situation, John jokingly captioned the snap: "Less of a dash more of a hop to the studio come Monday."

After sharing the update with his friends and followers, the sports presenter was inundated with messages of support.

Jon 53, rushed to share a cheeky get well soon post for his co-star as he penned: "Take care, John. I’ve got a glittery sock for the other foot if you need it."

Another person shared: "Not fun at all John, keep well," as a third commented: "Oh no. Get well soon mate. More bad news for Ryan Mason."

"Wishing you a speedy recovery John x,' someone else added while another wrote: "Hope you’re on the mend soon John x."
