A SAME-sex teenage kiss has aired for the first time on CBBC.
Two female characters on the show The Next Step were seen sharing the passionate embrace.
The teen drama, about wannabe dancers, has been running for seven years on the kids’ channel but this is the first lesbian storyline.
The episode saw Cleo, played by Dani Verayo, 19, and Jude, portrayed by Molly Saunders, 18, kiss during a romantic dance routine.
One viewer of the Canadian series said: “This is progress. It will show people that it is just as normal as liking the different gender.”
LGBT charity Stonewall called the scene “important”.
A BBC spokeswoman said: “CBBC is proud to reflect all areas of children’s lives.”
Brookside in 1994, with Anna Friel and Nicola Stephenson, showed the first lesbian pre-watershed kiss.
