After winning the Daytime Award, ITV presenters Phillip Schofield, Holly Willoughby, Ruth Langsford, and Eamonn Holmes took to the stage to collect their award. However, after rumours of a rift between Phillip and Ruth, some viewers commented on their distance from one another on stage at the National Television Awards.
This Morning achieved victory at the NTAs on Thursday after winning the Daytime Award, beating The Chase, Loose Women, and The Repair Shop.
The This Morning team were ecstatic at the win, tweeting: “Words can’t describe how thankful we are for your continued support. It means so much to us!”
However, some eagle-eyed viewers think they have spotted a rift between Ruth and Phillip after they barely interacted at the awards show.
After Vernon Kay announced their win, Holly and Phillip were quick to hug each other before taking to the stage.
There was no interaction between the two with Ruth and Eamonn as they collected the award, with Holly and Phillip taking to the stage first.
“We’re always massively, massively proud of This Morning and our team and our family,” Phillip said as he held the award.
“What was amazing for us was, every single day, because of the brilliance of ITV, we could stay on air and we could be there.
“We felt like we were everyone’s comfort blankets, but for all of us, you were our comfort blankets.”
As Phillip delivered his speech, Ruth was standing beside him but viewers commented on how her body language hinted the two don’t like each other.
“I can’t help but love Ruth’s obvious disdain for Holly and Phil’s lovey-dovey stuff. What a queen,” one viewer commented.
Someone else on Twitter pointed out: “Ruth clearly doesn’t like Phil.”
However, some other fans were upset Phillip got the chance to speak, with a few noticing he made his way to the stage with Holly a while before Ruth and the rest of the team.
“Schofe did HIS acceptance speech before everyone was even on the stage… He Wasn’t even nominated RUDE & TYPICAL,” one person stated.
Another wrote: “Well Done @EamonnHolmes and @RuthieeL . You should have been given the opportunity to speak!”
Rumours there was a rift between the two began circulating last year after Ruth called Phillip a “cynic”.
The Mirror also reported the feud escalated after Ruth reportedly filed an official complaint against her colleague for interrupting her live on-air during a Loose Women segment.
Audiences also pointed out Phillip only thanked Holly in his speech, while she made a point to namecheck Eamonn and Ruth as she thanked the “incredible” ITV team.
The awkward tension between the pair was also noted at the previous NTA awards in 2020 as, once again, the two didn’t interact on-stage.
This led to fans noting they’re “pretending to like each other” when making public appearances together.
Express.co.uk has approached a representative of Ruth Langsford for comment.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
