Conjuring spin-off The Nun’s new teaser makes getting buried even more terrifying than it seems

The Conjuring spin-off The Nun somehow manages to make the prospect of being buried alive even more terrifying than it initially seems in a creepy new teaser.

This glimpse of the Conjuring universe prequel follows the very unfortunate Father Burke (Academy Award nominee Demián Bichir) as he’s chased through a graveyard and into an open coffin — and he makes the wrong choice to jump right in.

Have a look at the teaser below to find out what happens when you lock yourself into a coffin that’s already occupied:

The Nun traces the origins of Valak (aka the demonic Nun from The Conjuring 2) back to early-’50s Romania, where Father Burke and Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) have come to investigate the strange death at the Cârța Monastery.

American Horror Story star Taissa Farmiga’s role is a crucial one in the film, but director Corin Hardy has admitted in the past that he was reluctant to cast her because her sister Vera Farmiga starred in the Conjuring films.

“Honestly, I probably wasn’t going to cast her because she was Vera’s sister, in order for it to not look convenient, but she was so good in her auditions,” he admitted at last year’s Horror Channel FrightFest.

“I watched 100 auditions for this role and she had some kind of presence outside of her own body that is evident, and she’s phenomenal.”

The Nun opens on September 7 in the UK and the US.
