Coronation Street fans in hysterics as Sally Metcalfe fights police after being arrested for weeing in the street

CORONATION Street fans are in hysterics at Sally Metcalfe’s arrest.

The former Mayor – who is played by actress Sally Dynevor in the ITV soap – was arrested for public urination after being caught short in front of a camera.

A local paper ran the story and the police came to arrest her at the hospital where husband Tim was going in for a triple bypass.

The couple clashed over his decision to keep the truth from her – and she stormed out.

But as Sally returned the nurse told her that Tim was asking after her.

“It was a bit touch and go – he was this close to refusing the op,” she said as Sally looked delighted.

But as Tim was being put under for the operation, he had a vision of Sally fighting with the police in the hallway.

It was later revealed that Sally had kicked a hole in a glass vending machine door trying to avoid arrest for public urination.

As Tim came too they all tried to keep it a secret from him – but he soon saw a paper that showed it all.

The front page was emblazoned with a picture of Sally having a wee in the street on New Year’s Eve.

He was horrified to discover Sally’s arrest was real and wanted to know the full story.

Elaine told him: “She didn’t want to leave hospital while you were in surgery so she put up a fight.

“There was a scuffle, and she kicked the vending machine. That’s criminal damage so they arrested her and took her to the police station.”

Later Sally was let go – but viewers couldn’t get the sight of her booting a hole in a vending machine out of their heads.

They were in hysterics at the scene.

One wrote: "Only our Sally would get arrested."

A second said: "Sally? Resisting arrest? Surely not!"

Another added: "Oh for heaven’s sake, poor Tim can’t even have open heart surgery without Sally trying to upstage him."
