It’s official – Coronation Street has a new conman on the cobbles.
Show newcomer Duncan Radfield will have his true agenda uncovered next week, as it’s revealed that he’s conned Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) out of council funding.
Last month, Duncan (Nicholas Greaves) spoke to Sally about applying for a mayoral grant for his charity, explaining that he’d set it up as a tribute to his late wife.
Next week, Duncan continues to hang around Sally in order to sway her in his direction, arousing the suspicions of her husband Tim.
Although Tim starts to suspect that Duncan can’t be trusted and tries to warn Sally, she’s touched by the new arrival’s sob story and decides to back him.
Duncan is clearly delighted when Sally confirms that he’ll be receiving the grant, but he later crosses the line by asking if she can fast-track some of the funds.
Deceptive Duncan claims that he’s found a great deal on some hospital equipment and wants to get it while he still can.
As a result, Tim becomes more convinced than ever that Duncan is up to no good, so he decides to team up with Steve McDonald to check him out.
When the pair play detective by turning up at his office, they’re shocked to find the place completely empty.
Although Tim attempts to warn Sally, it’s already too late and she’s sickened to discover that the £40,000 has disappeared.
The council’s head of finance, Jeanette, warns Sally that she has no option but to call the police to investigate this matter formally.
Tim points out that Jeanette is also to blame as she approved the finance transfer, but could this nasty incident have devastating consequences for Sally and her mayoral career?
