Coronation Street star Sally Ann Matthews hints at "upmarket" Rovers Return makeover

Coronation Street‘s Sally Ann Matthews has dropped some huge hints about what the cobbles’ iconic pub will look like after a big makeover.

The actress, who plays Jenny Connor on the show, hinted about what viewers can expect with the Rovers Return’s grand unveiling.

The makeover will be revealed on Friday (August 24), with Jenny and Johnny turning the local boozer in to a gastropub – much to the annoyance of Michelle Connor.

“Jenny loves a mood board, she wants it to be upmarket and fancy schmancy and she might just get her way,” Sally told Richard Arnold on Good Morning Britain.

The couple recently bought the pub off Peter Barlow and Toyah Battersby when Henry and Gemma’s offer went wrong, but Sally recently admitted that her character wasn’t blown away with her husband’s plans to take over the Rovers.

“Jenny is not up for this at first,” she said. “Firstly she was supposed to be queen of the factory, secondly she was supposed to be swanning it up in Spain with the villa, the swimming pool and the beach-pine table, but suddenly she is going to be working in a poxy backstreet boozer.

“It’s not what she had in mind for herself,” she continued.

“But she recognises that Johnny needs this to take his mind off Aidan and her heart belongs to Johnny Connor, so she will do whatever makes him happy.”

Richard was also sure to embarrass Sally with a throwback picture of her sporting an ’80s mullet. Being a good sport, he also revealed his own hair-do from the decade too.

Good Morning Britain is on ITV weekdays from 6am, whicle Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
