Coronation Street fans were initially confused when Robert Preston returned from prison with a brand new hair colour, but now it’s hard to imagine Tristan Gemmill as anything but a silver fox.
But, as it turns out, Tristan actually wanted to embrace his grey hair a lot earlier than did.
According to Tristan, there were “a number of reasons” he continued dyeing his hair for longer than planned, but it was mainly down to ensuring “continuity” in Weatherfield.
“I’d toyed with stopping with the tinting for quite a long time, but the problem was continuity on Coronation Street,” he told Soaplife (via What’s on TV).
“Because we film in blocks that are out of sequence, I couldn’t be grey in one scene but dyed-black in the next!” he added.
But it wasn’t just about getting the timing right, the actor also had to get the go-ahead from Corrie‘s producers before taking the plunge: “The chance came when Robert was sent to prison last year and I had about six weeks off.
“I figured it was now or never – although I consulted the producers first, of course. They were fine about it fortunately,” Tristan said.
While the producers might have said they were OK with Robert Preston turning grey, his recent storylines suggest otherwise. Seriously, when will he and Michelle catch a break?
Not only did Robert recently suffer a heart attack and have to deal with his wife-to-be getting shot on their wedding day, he and Michelle will be faced with yet another chilling near-death experience this week. Literally.
