Dan Walker ‘storms off’ GMB as he pokes fun at Piers Morgan’s heated exit

Dan Walker appeared on Monday morning's Good Morning Britain where he spoke about his move from BBC Breakfast to Channel 5.

The broadcaster used his visit to the ITV studio to make fun of one of their former employees, Piers Morgan, who famously stormed off the show in 2021 when a discussion about Meghan Markle became heated.

Both Dan, 45, and Piers, 57, have been involved in a feud for years having wound each other up on Twitter numerous times.

As far back as 2017, the former GMB host was regularly trying to get to Dan by claiming his show was closing the ratings gaps on BBC Breakfast.

Just before his interview with hosts Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid ended, Dan announced he was going to what people "normally do on this programme" and walked off the set.

He said: "Well, I'm going to do what they normally do on this programme and walk off."

Susanna, 51, stated: "I would like to point out only one person has ever done that but yes, it is a stage that has been set for you."

And Dan replied: "Bye, see you later. See you at five o'clock on Channel 5."

His interview began with Susanna asking whether he would be on the show if Piers had returned, she asked: "Would you have come in if the former occupant of Richard's seat had been sitting here?"

Dan attempted to deflect the question by first asking if she was referring to Adil Ray before questioning both hosts, saying: "I think the more interesting question would is would you lot be here if he came back?"

Susanna stated: "Well, I'm still here. Could you and Piers be in a studio together?"

Dan responded by saying: "Of course, of course we could."

Richard, 66, then asked the new Channel 5 news presenter about the time he and Piers shared a golf course together.

The game resulted in a photo emerging of Dan with his hands around Piers' throat but he said that was a simply a joke.

"Yeah he and I were, well, you know what he's like," he started, before Susanna exclaimed: "He's a troublemaker!"

Dan agreed saying: "Yes, he's a troublemaker, but he's good to spend time with.

"So he and I were playing golf together for a charity and after about three quarters of the round he said 'listen I've paid a photographer to be here today and I need a picture of me with your hands around my neck for the papers tomorrow.

"I played along and I think that's a window into his world."

Dan is set to make his Channel 5 debut on Monday night at 5pm on Channel 5, after leaving his role on BBC Breakfast.

The presenter was quizzed by Richard and Susanna on the best and worst things about working on TV.

"I think the best thing is the people you get to work with and I love relationships in tele," he said, before adding: "You both know what it's like – you both need to sit next to someone you have confidence in, someone you can support and look after.

"I think that's what I've enjoyed with Louise (Minchin), with Sally (Nugent) and hopefully with Claudia-Liza (Vanderpuije) on Channel 5."

Dan explained the worst thing about being a news reader are the "days where you've got to talk about stuff that's horrible".

He used the Manchester bombing as an example, saying: "You never enjoy that, but it's part of the job."

Following his interview on GMB many viewers were extremely complimentary of Dan, with one person saying: "So great to see you Dan on GMB this morning with Susanna, Richard before my Early shift. Good luck with your new role presenting Channel 5 News, I know you'll be great as you was at presenting Breakfast for many years."

Another said: "He should have been snapped up as Piers replacement."

A third person added: "What a lovely brief appearance."
