Filming has begun on Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan – and treats from the set are coming thick and fast.
After unveiling the first-look at actress Liu Yifei as the sword-wielding heroine yesterday (August 13), director Niki Caro has now shared a picture from the set.
The stunning image appears to be from a scene in the new movie which is similar to the one in the animated film in which Mulan sings ‘Reflection’.
Caro captioned the pic: “Mulan. Day #1. Reflections.#mulan #disney #yifei_cc.”
It might be interesting to note the choice of picture Caro decided to share, as it mirrors a musical scene in the animated film.
When the live-action remake was first announced, there was controversy over whether or not it would include music.

Caro later confirmed that music would be a part of the film, even if it’s not an all-out musical.
“The live-action is based on that inspirational Chinese ballad and on the animated Disney classic,” Caro told The Hollywood Reporter.
“We’re still exploring the role that music’s going to play in it, but for sure there will be music.”
Like the animated version, Mulan will tell the story of a young woman who disguises herself as a man in order to take the place of her elderly father in the military.
The new movie will see Jet Li play the emperor of China and Donnie Yen as Mulan’s mentor, Commander Tung. Gong Li will play the film’s main villain, and Yoson An has been cast as Mulan’s love interest Chen Honghui.
Shooting for Mulan is taking place in China and New Zealand. It is scheduled for release on March 27, 2020.
