EastEnders fans horrified by Gray as he keeps an eye on Chantelle’s every move

EastEnders fans were left horrified after Friday’s episode, when Gray’s control of Chantelle worsened further.

The ongoing domestic violence storyline is set to end in tragedy for Chantelle Atkins (Jessica Plummer), and Friday’s episode saw Gray (Toby-Alexander Smith) working from home in order to keep an eye on her every move.

After he stopped her escaping with the children the night before, Gray tried to get Chantelle to get the engagement ring she sold back to prove she still loves him.

Having her attempt to get away ruined, Chantelle told daughter Mia that their ‘adventure’ is not happening for the moment, but not to mention it to Gray.

Chantelle’s dad Mitch provided an unexpected lifeline as he told her that he had booked a break to Southend for her and the kids with him and Chantelle’s mum, Karen Taylor.

Eager to use the opportunity to escape, Chantelle tells her kids that they will be going on the adventure after all, hoping this might be the answer to her problems.

Later, viewers also saw Kheerat offer to help Chantelle, giving her a poker chip which she could cash in to be with him once she is ready.

It’s already been revealed that the storyline will end in Gray killing Chantelle, and fans took to Twitter to voice their horror at the intense scenes.

They wrote: ‘God I so want to see Chantelle triumph and escape Gray. I want to see her live the life she deserves with her kids by her side. So so disheartening to think she’ll be killed off by that evil p***k Gray #eastenders scary to think this goes on behind closed doors in reality.’

EastEnders domestic violence – get support

Two thirds of women who were experiencing abuse from their partner/ex-partner in June told a Women’s Aid study that their abuser had started using lockdown restrictions or the Covid-19 virus and its consequences as part of the abuse.  (66.7% of those answering question – Women’s Aid Survivor Survey, June 2020).

At the height of lockdown over three quarters of women living with an abuser said they felt they could not leave or get away because of the pandemic. (78.6% of those answering question – Women’s Aid Survivor Survey, April 2020).

Others added: ‘Knowing what’s going to happen makes this even more horrible to watch with Chantelle and Grey’ and ‘Omg quaking because of Chantelle and Gray’.

Some held out hope that Chantelle may make it against the odds, despite knowing her fate: ‘In spite of the spoilers, is anyone hoping against hope that Chantelle does escape Gray and doesn’t get murdered? Horrible storyline, but i guess it needs to be told, especially if it encourages people to speak out against domestic abuse.’

Others wrote: ‘God you can even see the potential happy future for Chantelle, with Kheerat and her kids and family. This is such a devastating storyline.’
