EastEnders fans ‘in tears’ as Whitney Dean returns to square after prison stint

EastEnders fans were left reaching for the box of tissues during tonight's episode as Whitney Dean returned to Albert Square.

After her lawyer Gray Atkin found concrete evidence in Leo King's loft that he had been stalking Whitney, Gray managed to get Whitney out on bail.

Over the last couple of episodes, fans have watched Whitney starve herself and refuse to eat in prison as she went on strike until she felt like someone had listened to her.

Whitney handed herself in to police following the deathly boat party for the 35th anniversary episode after she killed Leo in self-defence before the party.

In tonight's episode, fans were left "in tears" as Whitney returned to the square with Gray.

The two entered the Queen Vic pub to mark her return, which saw a number of other characters, including Gray's wife Chantelle, run towards her.

Hugging it out, Whitney then turned to Chantelle to thank her for allowing her husband to work on the case.

Fans flocked to Twitter to share their happiness, one wrote: "I'm in tears over Whit's return."

A second said: "Thank goodness Whitney is out on bail. Gray did something good for once."

Another tweeted: "YES Whitney finally got bail, Nice one Gray."

BBC bosses were forced to shut down filming on the soap last week after the coronavirus was deemed a pandemic.

Episodes have been reduced from four to two a week for the time being, in a bid to keep the show on air for as long as possible.
