Emmerdale fans applaud ITV soap as Rhona and Marlon use makaton to talk to Leo

Rhona Goskirk and Marlon Dingle have an adorable moment as they speak to their baby in makaton, which amazed viewers.

Rhona and Marlon had a fraught relationship for a long time, as they were set up by Emily Dingle before Rhona decided to leave the village, ruining their chances together.

They briefly rekindled their relationship before she abandoned him for a bit of Paddy Kirk instead, but she soon realised she was pregnant with Marlon’s baby.

Marlon was determined not to be involved in the baby’s life, but soon they found out he would be born with Down syndrome and the couple decided to go ahead with the birth and support their baby.

Leo was born and the couple struggled to cope, as Rhona left with Leo for Australia, but soon returned as the couple tried to get along, before Rhona found Pete Barton and the pair have been incredibly strong since.

But fans had rarely seen Marlon and Rhona with their baby, and had not seen them communicate with their little boy who has Down syndrome.

The couple sat together as Rhona tried to explain to Leo that Pete would be moving in with them.

Marlon also tried to explain the new living situation to Leo, and they tried to ask him for his opinion.

He did not want to answer, as he played with toys in the garden, which Pete decided must mean Leo is not happy with their new living situation.

However, Marlon and Rhona assured Pete he was welcome in their lives, while fans pronounced their happiness at using makaton in a mainstream show.
