Emmerdale fans are convinced they've discovered who the mysterious new character Chloe's dad is on the ITV soap.

Tuesday night's edition showed the young woman being followed by another car in tense scenes as she drove along the road with Kerry alongside her.

While the character's history is so far being kept under wraps, viewers started to put the pieces together during the latest instalment.

Eagle-eyed fans think Chloe has a "dangerous dad", and are convinced he has been released from prison and is now hunting her down to find her.

Viewers of the Yorkshire-based soap already know that Chloe's sister Gemma died three years ago, so some think there's a connection to her biological father and his return is imminent.

During scenes that prompted viewers to zero in on the inside of the car, they spotted a mystery man in the driver's seat, but unfortunately he was too obscured for them to confirm his identity.

With a flurry of theories on Twitter, fans debated who it could be.

One fan said excitedly: "Who was the person following them in the car omg and who is chloes dad omggg #Emmerdale."

"I’m literally on the floor trying to get a close up on Chloe’s dad! doesn’t look like Declan or Pierce! #emmerdale," another person wrote.

A third viewer posted: "Chloe’s Dad’s got eyes on her…. #Emmerdale."

While a fourth joked: "Looks like Mike from Breaking Bad in that shot!"

Others were convinced the soap was setting up a Coronation Street crossover, with the infamous (now dead) Pat Phelan making a return.

Elsewhere, viewers are gearing up for a dramatic Christmas in the Dales.

It comes following reports that the characters are set for an "explosive" festive period as beloved pub The Woolpack is "burned down".

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
