Former Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage took his seat behind the GB News desk as a main presenter for the very first time on Monday evening to front his all-new prime-time slot. In a month that has seen GB News hit headlines for its declining ratings, tech blunders, and guest host Guto Harri taking the knee, Farage was keen from the get-go not to shy away from the channel’s controversies and gave fans an idea of what to expect from his new show. And in doing so, he couldn’t resist a pop at Harri for his gesture which “wouldn’t have been allowed on any other channel”.

Kicking off his show on Monday, Farage delivered a passionate speech to the camera about his reasons for joining GB News and why he believes in the channel.

“Good evening, this is GB News and we are five weeks old,” Farage began. “A fledgling in broadcasting terms.”

Addressing the channel’s flaws head-on, Farage continued: “I’m sure you’ve read and seen some criticism of GB News, the sets are dull and black and boring,

“Well, have a look around, you can see things are changing,” he added as he showed off the brightly-coloured screens erected behind him.

He continued: “Some of the tech issues didn’t work on day one. Well, show me a broadcaster that ever launched that didn’t have some tech issues on day one but they’re improving too.”

Turning his attention to Harri following his axe earlier this month days after taking the knee on-air, Farage said: “And yes, there was a part-time presenter who made a political gesture that wouldn’t be allowed on any channel in the United Kingdom,

“And he’s gone – those are the negatives,” Farage added before explaining the positives and exactly why he decided to join the channel.
