Kelly Thiebaud has delighted fans with her recent return to General Hospital as she once again steps into the role of Britt Westbourne.
And while her arrival back in Port Charles came as a pleasant surprise to viewers, it turns out the offer to return to the show was also a bit of a shock for the actress as well.
In fact, she got the offer for her latest stint on the show while camping out during the pandemic.
Kelly explained on That’s Awesome! With Steve & Bradford: ‘I was last on GH in the end of January, beginning of February. And they kind of left it to where I would recur and I was super-excited about that. But obviously that didn’t happen and then corona hit so I was like, “Well, I’m never coming back. They’re never going to remember me.”.
‘I got this random text from [executive producer Frank Valentini] out of the blue. In a spot that I happened to have service because I was out in the wilderness. And he was like, “Call me.” And so I called him.’
She continued: ‘I’ve had reservations about coming back full-time for a while and he’s been aware of that. We had a conversation and he was like, “Would you consider coming back for this amount of time?” And I was like, “Well, okay, let’s talk about this.” I think it just ended up being the right moment and it was perfect.’
But her return has been going great so far as the star gets comfortable as part of the cast again.
Speaking about her first day back, she explained: ‘It’s been awesome. My first day back was surprisingly great. I have history on that show, not to say in a negative way, but you just never know how it’s going to feel.
‘There’s new people on the show that I don’t know… it’s just a whole thing to get your body used to daytime life. And then there’s all the new protocols and masks. There was a lot happening that just I didn’t know how to prepare for but it went great.’
Britt has returned as the hospital’s new chief of staff and it looks like there might be some interesting storylines coming her way.
Kelly teased: ‘She’s been such a big kind of personality on the show. I would love to ground her a little bit and have her go through something that’s real and heartwrenching and relatable.
‘But I did just get some news from Frank that the writers wanted me to know that I’m not going to say now, but it does add an element to her that I hope they’ll do a good job playing it out.’
The actress first joined GH in 2012 before she left in 2015.
However, she has made multiple short-term appearances on the soap since then, with the most recent stint airing earlier this year.
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.
