Prue Leith has revealed she paid a tribute to her predecessor Mary Berry during The Great British Bake Off final in 2017.
The 78-year old chef has said she wore a "hilarious" apron which featured the slogan "What Would Mary Do?" in honour of her friend, who she replaced on the show when it moved from BBC One to Channel 4.
However, according to Prue, producers were not impressed by her choice of protective garment, and told her she must take it off before cameras rolled.
Prue told Female First : "On the day of the finals, I decided to wear an apron that said, ‘What would Mary do?’ I thought it would be hilarious.
"No one noticed till they started filming and then I was told to take it off… Obviously it wouldn’t have been appropriate."
Mary has offered her support to Prue when it was announced that Mary’s role would be taken on by her friend, and Prue confirmed the pair have been friends for a long time.
She also said her co-star, Paul Hollywood , has been a good friend of hers since they started working together on Bake Off.
Prue continued to The Mail on Sunday : "We’ve known each other for 40 or 50 years. She’s a great friend.
"She called me to tell me she was glad I was doing the show and that I’d done a great job, which was lovely of her."
"[Paul has] become a good mate. He’s like the grandfather to all of us on the show because – bar him – we are all newbies.
"He’ll tell me where to stand and remind me what’s coming next. I’m constantly saying the wrong names for the challenges and Paul will keep me on track."
Despite Prue being the newbie and taking advice from her colleague, she admitted the only episode she had ever seen was when Nadiya Hussein took the crown in 2016.

She added: "I never actually watched it before… I mean, I did see the episode when Nadiya won and thought that was very sweet.
"But I don’t actually watch much telly, which is why I didn’t quite get what a big deal it was and how much it was going to change my life."
The Great British Bake Off trailer has already aired, meaning the newest season, featuring presenter Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig with the two judges, will be back in the autumn.
