Move over, Luke Morgan – Hollyoaks has given Mercedes McQueen pride of place in the newly-updated opening titles.

The soap recently filmed some updated shots for its title sequence, which made its debut in Friday night’s E4 first look episode (August 10).

As all Hollyoaks superfans know, the final shot in the titles is always given to a key character – so with Mercedes now back on our screens, she’s been handed the coveted position.

As a result, Mandy Richardson and Luke Morgan have been moved earlier in the sequence – perhaps not surprising since Luke will be disappearing from our screens altogether for a few months soon.

The other new and returning characters incorporated into the sequence include Liberty Savage, Breda McQueen, Sylver McQueen, Romeo Quinn and Brooke Hathaway.

Eagle-eyed fans will have also spotted that Mac Nightingale’s old shot has been slotted back in, hinting that we’ll be seeing much more of him in the near future.

Stuart Manning, who plays Russ Owen, has also filmed a spot in the titles which has yet to be added.

Stephanie Davis has filmed a shot for Sinead O’Connor’s upcoming return too, but this won’t feature on screen until she’s back in a couple of months’ time.

Jennifer Metcalfe, who plays Mercedes, took a year’s maternity break from Hollyoaks after welcoming the arrival of her first child Daye with partner Greg Lake.

She’s now returned to filming on a full-time basis, with the exciting new Magaluf-based storyline ensuring that she arrives back with a bang.

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
