Gossip Girl will see its reboot finally launch this week on July 8, introducing a new generation of fans to the social media teen drama series. Premiering on HBO Max, the show is promising to be a more modern spin of the original format. But how many episodes are there in the Gossip Girl reboot?
How many episodes are in the Gossip Girl reboot?
HBO Max is bringing back the beloved Gossip Girl series with the reboot of the same name.
The original series aired on The CW and ran from 2007 to 2012, with HBO hoping the new show will bring together fans new and old.
There will be 10 episodes in the new season, with the first dropping on July 8.
Each episode will drop weekly, with the finale set to premiere on September 9.
The reboot will follow the next generation of New York private school teens using social media to spread gossip – much like the original series.
The first episode is titled Just Another Girl on MTA, with the synopsis reading: “As the school year begins for New York’s elite, a new student at Constance St.
“Jude’s finds herself thrust into the spotlight, while a mysterious presence threatens to shake the status quo.”
The showrunner of the series, Joshua Safran, also created the original show and has clarified that the series is more of a continuation of the original series rather than a straight reboot.
Since the show is set within the world of the original series, fans have been hoping to see some of the original faces show up this time around.
However, Safran has made it clear that the focus of the reboot is on the new characters, explaining that “the audience would never accept these characters if they were in the shadow of the original characters”.
Safran continued: “There isn’t enough screen time. If Blair [Waldorf] showed up for two scenes, you’d say, ‘I want more Blair’.
“The decision was, ‘Let’s get season one under our belt, and should we get season two, we’ll have the chance to bring in cameos that are more than glorified cameos but actually give them storylines.”
It seems clear that Safran does intend to bring some of the original characters back if the show makes it past season one, but fans shouldn’t expect any cameos this time around.
However, the familiar voice of Kristen Bell is back for the reboot as she returns as the voice of Gossip Girl.
Her narration helps to link the two shows together and ease fans into the new cast of characters.
The new characters include Julien Calloway (played by Jordan Alexander), with actors Eli Brown, Adam Chanler-Berat, Thomas Doherty and Elizabeth Lail joining her.
HBO Max dropped the trailer for the series last month which introduced many of the new characters to the fans.
Fans can’t wait to dive into the new series, with many of them sharing their excitement by commenting on the trailer.
One fan said: “I love that Kristen Bell is still the voice of Gossip Girl. There’s just something with the way she says XOXO that is SO Gossip Girl.”
Another fan added: “They’re 100% emotionally manipulating me to watch this show by having a frank ocean song in the trailer… it’s working.”
A third fan commented: “Hearing that “X.O.X.O. Gossip Girl” made me feel like 10 years younger.”
Gossip Girl is available to watch on HBO Max from July 8 and on The CW on July 9
