Hey, remember that floating Sky Pool that sits between two apartment buildings in London, 115ft up in the air?
It was quite, uh, divisive.
Not just in terms of people wanting to take a dip and those who think a transparent pool in the sky is a horrifying prospect, but also because it highlighted the discrepancies among the residents of the buildings.
Did you know, for example, that those in shared ownership housing in the building are not allowed to use the Sky Pool?
That means that only the wealthier residents who purchase or rent their apartments at full price are allowed access.
Alongside this, many have criticised the display of wealth involved in a fancy pool, while there’s still a lack of affordable social housing in the same area of London.
So, all in all, a bit controversial.
But if you’ve come out of all this conversation thinking ‘I’d like to swim in that pool’, we have some good news for you.
A two-bedroom apartment in the building, which is part of the Embassy Gardens development in south west London, is up for sale.
It’s going for £1,260,000, and if you were to buy that outright (not through shared ownership), you would get access to the SkyPool included.
That’s quite a chunk of change, so what else do you get?
We’ll talk you through the flat first.
This flat sits on the 13th floor, and has 810 sq ft of interior space, plus a 67 sq ft balcony.
Inside is an open plan kitchen, dining, and living area, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms, one with a bathtub and one with a shower.
The interiors are inspired by 1950s Americana, which you can definitely see in the kitchen space, and fancy details include floor to ceiling windows, walnut parquet flooring, and plenty of marble.
So that’s the flat itself. But the main reason you’d buy a place here is for the other perks.
Residents get access to the Eg:le Club, which allows you and your guests access to the Sky Deck (that’s where the Sky Pool is), the Orangery rooftop bar, a private cinema, and a gym.
Then there’s the location.
The building is a 10-minute walk to Vauxhall station, giving you easy access to central London, and Battersea Park is 24 minutes away.
The listing says: ‘Embassy Gardens is a 21st-century development on the South Bank of London, looking across the River Thames to Chelsea and Kensington.
‘With its own green space, art trail, shops, restaurants and cafés, Embassy Gardens offers residents and their guests the complete London experience in the centre of the city.’
We guess if you’ve got millions spare and have your heart set on living in an apartment (you know you could buy a full-on house with a garden for that kind of money, right?), this place might be of interest… as long as you’re okay with some occassional ridicule from your pals, and having people see you swimming from 115ft below.
