Jacob and David’s Christmas rocked as mystery baby is dropped at their doorstep

In true Emmerdale style, Christmas is set to be one of the most explosive and dramatic times of the year – and Daily Star Online got a sneak preview at what's to come.

Emmerdale's executive producer Jane Hudson spoke to Daily Star Online and other press at a special event today and teased what's to come for a number of villagers.

But one of the most intriguing storylines to come involves the residents of Farrers Barn – David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden), Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) and Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi).

Recently, paedo teacher Maya Stepney (Louisa Clein) was released from prison and seen looking tremendously pregnant, leading viewers to debate who the father would be.

A sneak preview shared with Daily Star Online revealed that over Christmas, Jacob answers a mysterious knock on the door and finds a baby in a cradle on the doorstep.

While there's no confirmation that the baby is even Maya's, it was heavily implied, and producer Jane teased the tot's paternity will have huge consequences.

She said: "David and Jacob have gone through such a journey and I think we really got to a point where it felt like Jacob was starting to move on and starting to get his life back on track and act his age, like a teenager, and David was getting back on track.

"And while they're having a nice Christmas, it's all going well, Jacob opens the door and there's a baby. It's just not what you'd be expecting.

"It's going to have a massive effect for them and when they find out who the father is, if it's Maya's baby, obviously, it's going to for both of them have a massive effect, but for whoever the dad is, it's going to have an even bigger impact."

Maya had been in a relationship with David, while also grooming and secretly sleeping with teenager Jacob until the sordid news was made public.

She was then sent to prison for her interactions with Jacob but viewers saw her being released last month.

However it's not the only baby drama heading to the Dales this Christmas.

Jane confirmed Victoria Sugden's (Isabel Hodgins) baby will be born over the festive period – but not on Christmas Day as had been speculated by fans.

Speaking of Isabel's acting chops, Jane said: "She gives birth brilliantly, she's very good at giving birth. She did say she was going to watch One Born Every Minute."

She went on: "It's not a Christmas Day baby because we've got that many Christmas birthdays, so we thought we'd go wild and not have it on Christmas Day.

"So Victoria's going to have her baby. Her deep-rooted fear is, what if she looks at this baby and it just reminds her off her rape? She knows she's having a boy and actually, spoiler alert, she loves the baby, she doesn't look at it and see the rapist's face."

However Vic's troubles aren't over as her rapist's mum Wendy Posner (Susan Cookson) moved into the village this week.

Jane continued: "Then of course, she's then got to come back home and we've got Wendy in the village.

"Wendy is torn between what everyone believes her son did and she's trying to process that, and is she going to get to a point where she accepts what he did? Does she have to get to that point so she can have a relationship with her grandson?

"So there's battles going on. Victoria is a good person and doesn't want to hurt Wendy, but equally she can't be around somebody who's effectively calling her a liar.

"Then we've got Luke in the mix as well, who was a love interest, is he a lover interest? He's the brother of her rapist. There's a lot going on."

Emmerdale continues tonight at 7pm on ITV
