Lana Condor is speaking out regarding the offensive tweets that were previously sent out and liked by To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before co-star Israel Broussard.
Back in 2016, the 24-year-old actor, who plays Josh in the iconic Netflix movie, posted some incredibly insensitive messages about Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and the general political climate in the United States.
He also liked tweets that went against the Black Lives Matter movement and supported the Trump’s travel ban.
After facing tons of backlash over his social media use, Israel issued a statement taking responsibility for his actions and apologizing for offending people.
Lana sat down with Elle magazine recently and was asked what she thought of the tweets. While she says it’s “really unfair” that she has to answer a question “on behalf of his actions,” she acknowledges that Josh messed up and calls his actions “very, very, very disappointing.”
“Yeah, man. It’s very, very, very disappointing. And hurtful. Particularly for all the obvious reasons. The things he said are totally and completely wrong and upsetting.[…] It’s very upsetting and unfortunate. I hope that he learns from this and grows to be a better person. I couldn’t imagine him not being better.”
Israel promised that he is “dedicated” to educating himself and changing from hereon out, so let’s hope he is able to actually learn from his mistakes and take steps toward becoming a better, more empathetic person.
