Laura Whitmore ‘hopes to do Caroline Flack proud’ as she called on Love Island viewers to show the new contestants respect.
The Love Island 2021 line-up has been gradually announced throughout today, with Sharon Gaffka confirmed as the first islander, while Hugo Hammond was announced as the show’s first disabled contestant.
Laura will be returning for her second series of Love Island and has said she hopes to do Caroline – who died by suicide in 2020 – proud.
Sharing a promo shot of herself with the new Love Island backdrop on Instagram, the new mum wrote: ‘I think we’re all ready for some love! Ahhhhhh! So excited to watch the new islanders.
‘Hope you enjoy talking about them and following their journey and just a reminder to treat them with love, compassion and respect when they leave the show and go back to real life.’
She added: ‘Caroline I hope we do you proud. One week to go.’
Caroline presented Love Island for four years from 2015 until 2019 when she was dropped by ITV following the alleged assault of her then boyfriend Lewis Burton weeks before the first ever winter edition of the series launched.
Ahead of the next series of Love Island and following the death of three stars attached to the programme, bosses laid out the new procedures the show would be taking to monitor contestant’s mental health.
Before the new line-up was announced, the official Love Island social media account urged followers to think long and hard before commenting on the new cast.
‘YOU’VE GOT A TEXT! Tomorrow we will be revealing the cast for Love Island 2021…
‘These Islanders are all single and ready to find love. We can’t wait to watch them get to know each other, date, and maybe even find the one.
‘We’re so grateful they’re letting us follow their journey this summer. We hope you enjoy the show, but please think before you post.’
Love Island returns to ITV2 on June 28.
