After a decade of portraying the God of Mischief, Tom Hiddleston has relished exploring the beloved character on the small screen. As Disney+ has expanded its universe with, so far, three original series, viewers have loved seeing the antihero on-screen again. However, a second season has just been announced and Hiddleston has detailed what viewers can expect in the future.

Everybody’s favourite shapeshifter returned to Disney+ for his very own self-titled series and was met with huge acclaim from critics and fans alike.

Having spent a decade in the shadow of his hammer-wielding brother Thor (played by Chris Hemsworth), an exploration of the trickster has been a delight.

However, after recent announcements that Loki is the biggest ever Disney+ series, fans are curious if there will be a second season.

Fans’ prays have been answered as a second season has just been announced, and actor Hiddleston has provided some updates on Loki’s future.

Speaking to Deadline, Hiddleston discussed the expansive world of Marvel on the small screen and discussed the possibility of a season two.

Refusing to rule out the possibility of a season two, he said: “I have learned, at this point, having said goodbye to the character more than twice, two and a half times maybe, to make no assumptions.

“We’ll see where the ride goes now,” the Marvel actor added.

Loki has famously died on-screen in three of the Marvel films but the scheming trickster has always found his way back into the Marvel universe, as well as fans’ hearts.

Loki’s brutal death at the hands of Thanos (Josh Brolin) in Avengers: Infinity War looked set to be the final time the former villain appeared on-screen and, while still dead, Loki’s place is as relevant as ever in the show.

As the MCU heads into phase four, Hiddleston explained that Loki’s future is uncertain but the actor is certainly hopeful: “So, I’m also aware that I’m only playing him because of the audience, really. So, it’s not up to me.

“But I do love playing him, and every time, I seem to find new, interesting things about him.”

The actor also revealed that it was a “gift” and a “privilege” to return to the role.

Adding: “I love taking Loki in new directions.”

The second season renewal was announced during the credits of Loki’s finale episode, stating: “Loki will return in season 2.”

The actor was clearly remaining tight-lipped about season two and the show’s future in order to avoid spoiling the reveal during the finale this morning.

Another aspect that excited the actor about Loki’s turn on television was exploring the complex character as the films don’t always have the “time or space” to do so.

In a discussion of Loki’s role in the next phase of the MCU, Hiddleston stated that Marvel’s move to television has led to “more expansive” and “braver” stories.

“I think the stories are getting really exciting.”

The actor noted that the series could affect the Marvel films going forward, specifically with the idea of the multiverse.

The multiverse has been explored before in the films but not quite to the extent of Loki.

With Disney+’s first series WandaVision promising to greatly affect the events of the upcoming film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, surely Loki’s adventures will change the course of future storylines, as well as open up opportunities as the MCU moves forward.

Speaking of the series, Hiddleston noted, “it raised questions,” and that the “possibilities there are endless”.

Season one of Loki is available to watch now on Disney+.
