Lucifer season five, part two will premiere on Friday, May 28 on Netflix. In part one of series five, Lucifer (played by Tom Ellis) lost his vulnerability around Chloe (Lauren German) before gaining it again, leading fans to question whether he is invincible. Is Lucifer invincible?

For the past five seasons of Lucifer, Lucifer Morningstar has always been vulnerable around Detective Chloe Decker.

At first, fans believed this was because he was in love with the Detective but that all changed in season five of the show.

In the latest series five Lucifer and Chloe finally got together with Chloe even telling the Devil she was in love with him.

Fans feared the worst when Dan Espinoza (Kevin Alejandro) turned up at Lucifer’s apartment brandishing a gun after finding out Lucifer really was the devil.

Dan was so worried about Chloe’s safety, he even shot Lucifer at point-blank range.

As Lucifer was always vulnerable around Chloe, fans were correct to fear the worst and assume Lucifer would die on the spot.

However, in a shocking twist of events, Lucifer survived the shooting, suggesting he was no longer vulnerable around Chloe.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunners Joe Henderson and Idly Modrovich discussed what Lucifer’s new invulnerability meant.

They explained angels self-actualize and Lucifer subconsciously chooses to be vulnerable around her.

Modrovich said: “I think it was the beginning of the second season when we were really examining why he’s vulnerable.

“A constant theme or truth of our world is, we have a choice. Things are up to us and even angels have free will.

“When we decided that, this is just another exploration of that theme. He decides to make himself vulnerable and because his brain is kind of behind, his body does it for him.

“That’s why angels self-actualize and have the powers they have, be they good or bad. They are trying to tell them something that they need to learn.”

Now Lucifer can choose when he is vulnerable, this had led some fans to believe he is actually invincible, meaning Lucifer can overcome and defeat anything, including death.

One Lucifer fan posted on Reddit: “As many times as Lucifer has put himself in harm’s way to save Chloe, even after he knew he was vulnerable when near her, and received so many unlikely near-misses and near-fatal results that he survived, could there be some divine intervention involved? (Also vice-versa with Chloe risking her life for him…). We know there was once, with Malcolm (Kevin Rankin), but could it have been ongoing?

“Anyway, the events of episode 8 made me wonder this additionally:

“Now that he has fully admitted his love for her to himself, could that love be making him INVINCIBLE as opposed to invulnerable?

“Chloe’s afraid that his newfound inability to get hurt means he’s pulling away from her, but what if, now, it’s just the opposite? Now, he’s stronger with her than away from her?”

PandorasPinata added: “I think Michael was inadvertently telling a partial truth when he tried to needle at Chloe by talking about angels self-actualising.

“Lucifer was vulnerable around Chloe because, although he didn’t initially recognise it, he loved her and it’s made clear his idea of love meant giving things up to the other person (hence why he also lost his mojo).

“But, after Our Mojo where he learns that relationships can be about empowering each other, lifting each other up to achieve more than you could alone, he reverses that. I suspect he might actually be invincible around Chloe now.”

A third Reddit user added: “When I watched 5A the first time I had the same thought about his newfound invincibility/invulnerability.

“Then I watched 5A again. The weird thing is that he was injected by Les and made mute/weak a few hours before he’s shot by Dan (they’re wearing the same clothes, so it appears to be the same night both things happen).

“The only thing that happens in between is Chloe and Lucifer’s conversation where he says ‘I think I may have dropped my guard.’ Has he now figured out how to control his invincibility? Or is something else going on?”

Fans will have to wait until Lucifer season five, part two arrives next month to find out if Lucifer’s vulnerability and potential invincibility will be explored.
