A new Mission Impossible 6 featurette has been released, exploring that Tom Cruise helicopter stunt.
The movie’s Super Bowl trailer last weekend was action-packed, but the stand-out sequence looked to be the helicopter chase (yup, that’s a lorry he’s flying towards) that came at its end – and of course, because this is Tom Cruise, he took part in the stunt himself.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at Tom in training for it:
While Tom wasn’t injured during this particular stunt, he did break his leg while filming for the movie in August last year.
In a video of the moment, Tom can be seen leaping from one building to another while secured to a wired harness, then falling just short of the mark and hitting the edge pretty hard.
Tom has since made enough of a recovery to complete the filming, and Mission: Impossible 6 is scheduled to hit cinemas this July, bringing back M:I favourites Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg and Michelle Monaghan, as well as A-list newcomers Angela Bassett and Henry Cavill.
Cruise will reprise his role as US operative Ethan Hunt in the movie, which he previously described as the most exciting one in the franchise’s history.
A pretty big statement, if there ever was one.
Mission Impossible 6 won’t arrive in UK and US cinemas until July 27 but you can check out some less agonising on-set photos right here.
