More exits as full storm aftermath revealed in new Emmerdale spoilers

As the dust literally settles after the epic storm that has raged through Emmerdale, it’s quite clear that everything has changed for the residents of the village – and the stage is set for quite a cast clear-out as there’s the potential for a lot of people to be leaving the Dales in one way or another.

It’s certain that lives will be lost and they will be major characters, as executive producer Jane Hudson has already revealed. ‘The nature of soaps means if you want to introduce new characters, then you need to lose old ones,’ she told us.

‘If you are going to do a death in the soap, it can’t be the postman who has had three lines because it doesn’t matter. A death has got to have an impact not just on the characters but also on the viewers watching. Each of our deaths will bring a different emotion.’

As well as deaths, current storylines mean that other characters are poised on the brink of exiting the show, too. Here’s a round-up of who we could be saying goodbye to.

Vinny Dingle and Liv Flaherty

Paddy (Dominic Brunt) gives Vinny (Bradley Johnson) and Liv (Isobel Steele) the news that Chas (Lucy Pargeter) is in hospital, and while he and Aaron (Danny Miller) set off to visit her, Vinny and Liv head out to the Woolpack in the middle of the storm to look after Eve. Could they fall victim to the storm just as they’ve seen off the threat of Sandra (Joanne Mitchell) and got their lives back on an even keel?

Charles Anderson

Naomi (Karene Peter) and Ethan (Emile John) become seriously concerned for Charles (Kevin Mathurin)’s safety when he goes missing in the storm as he and Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) search for the missing wedding party.

With Charles and Nicola still antagonistic with each other over his support for Naomi and her recent decision to report him to the bishop, will they manage to overcome their differences and help each other out of a dangerous situation? And will Naomi and Ethan find them in time?

Sam Dingle

Sam Dingle (James Hooton) suffers a terrible accident during the storm, as he finds himself impaled on a spike. ‘You never know what this show is going to throw at you,’ James Hooton told us. ‘We and the viewers don’t know at the end of the episode whether Sam lives or dies.’

What we do know is that Lydia (Karen Blick) gets some terrible news. Finding out Sam has been impaled is obviously terrible news, but is Lydia about to get the worst news possible if Sam doesn’t make it?

Rhona Goskirk

Marlon (Mark Charnock) and Mary (Louise Jameson) are at home as the storm starts to rage, but their huge fear is that Rhona (Zoe Henry) isn’t. She’s out and about somewhere, possibly working at one of the nearby farms. As it becomes clear that being outside at all in such ferocious weather is a really bad idea, Marlon and Mary are helpless to do anything, and just have to hope and pray that Rhona makes it back home in one piece.

Aaron Dingle – and Chas Dingle?

As the storm dies down, the villagers start to assess the damage and count the cost of what’s happened, both in terms of lives lost and the damage to the fabric of the village.

Now the immediate danger is over minds turn again to former concerns and for Chas it’s her affair with Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) and whether her son Aaron is going to reveal all to Paddy.

She’s desperately trying to hide the fact that she’s secretly planning a future with Al, and she edges Aaron towards deciding to leave the village as his absence would make her life a lot simpler. Just when we thought Chas’s behaviour couldn’t get more deplorable…

But Chas herself could be headed for the Emmerdale exit along with Al as he assures her that they will run away together soon – and definitely before Kerry (Laura Norton) can get more advanced with her wedding plans.

Tracy Metcalfe and Diane Sugden

We know that Diane Sugden (Elizabeth Estensen) and Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh) only came back temporarily for the 50th birthday celebration episodes, so they are two more characters we’ll be saying goodbye to.

With things getting complicated between Tracy and Nate (Jurell Carter), Tracy probably needs to go and sort things out between herself and her fiance, possibly paving the way for a more permanent return to the Dales in the future.

Meanwhile Elizabeth Estensen had ‘retired’ from the soap, but she said before her return for the 50th celebrations, ‘Who knows she may return again one day!’ – so we may not have seen the last of her, either.

Chloe Harris

Feeling desperately alone with the knowledge that she’s pregnant with Mackenzie (Lawrence Robb)’s baby, and that he doesn’t want anything to do with her, Chloe (Jessie Elland) doesn’t know which way to turn, so she tells Kerry she’s moving away to Leeds.

Kerry is hugely upset by this news, particularly when Chloe reveals that she’s pregnant. Can Kerry find anything to say that’ll make Chloe stick around in Emmerdale?

Or is she yet another in a seemingly endless line of people heading for the door?
