This Morning viewers weren’t happy with presenter Eamonn Holmes following an interview with Barry George.
Barry was wrongly found guilty of murdering Crimewatch presenter Jill Dando and served eight years in prison.
But he was acquitted 10 years ago, and was appearing on the ITV daytime show to discuss his time as a free man, alongside former police officer Mark Williams-Thomas, who gave an update on where the unsolved case stands now.
As the interview came to an end, Barry said: “I just want to say, in Hammersmith and Fulham, mostly in Fulham Borough, the amount of CCTV cameras, and they are trying to suggest –” but he was cut short by Eamonn.
“We are so sorry to interrupt you Barry, but thank you very much for coming into the studio today and talking,” the presenter said before moving on to the next segment.
Viewers were angry about the abrupt end to his chat, and took to Twitter to say so.
Discussing being sent to prison, despite being an innocent man, Barry said: “I was stunned. When they first read out the conviction, I thought, ‘Have they looked into it at all or done any research?’ I believe not, and they were too quick to jump at me.”
Eamonn, who was close friends with Jill Dando, informed viewers that Barry has numerous learning difficulties.
“Jill and I were very, very close and not once did I think it was you,” he said. “It was too professional and this is the wrong guy.”
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10.30am.
