Neighbours confirms return of several characters as icons set to reprise roles

Amazon Freevee and Fremantle have confirmed that several Neighbours icons will be returning to Ramsay Street for the next chapter of the beloved Australian soap.

The soap had originally been axed by broadcaster Channel 5, with the soap's supposed final episode airing in the summer and featuring a host of familiar faces including Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Guy Pearce.

However after production company Fremantle signed a deal to air the soap on Amazon Freevee, the programme is set to make a comeback in 2023 with a whole host of familiar faces returning in regular roles.

They include original cast member Annie Jones, who will return as Jane Harris, alongside Terese Willis icon Rebekah Elmaloglou.

Joining them as cast regulars will be Georgie Stone as Mackenzie Hargreaves and Tim Kano as Leo Tanaka.

The growing cast will also include Harold Bishop star Ian Smith, Chloe Brennan actress April Rose Pengilly and Lucy Robinson star Melissa Bell in guest roles.

The cast announcement follows earlier news that Alan Fletcher and Jackie Woodburne will return as iconic Ramsay Street couple Susan and Karl Kennedy – in addition to Ryan Maloney as Jared "Toadie" Rebekki and Stefan Dennis as Paul Robinson.

Fans saw Paul Robinson and Terese Willis reunite in the "final" Neighbours episode during the Summer, but following the announcement that Terese star Rebekah Elmaloglou will be returning, it seems that a new chapter in their romance may just be beginning.

However there are no details yet on what fans could expect from the new series of the soap, or what could lay in store as more classic characters return to Neighbours.

In addition to the cast announcements, Jason Herbison, Neighbours’ executive producer since 2013, will maintain his position on the exciting new chapter of Neighbours, with Andrew Thompson returning as producer.

While viewers will have to wait until Autumn for the new series of Neighbours to land on Amazon Freevee, fans can still enjoy catching up on classic stories and the entire 2012 series on the streaming service until then.
