Neighbours favourite Toadie gets his happily ever after in final ever episode of iconic soap

Tissues at the ready as tonight it's the final ever episode of Neighbours.

The finale, which has already aired in Australia, features longstanding cast member Toadfish, known to all as Toadie, played by Ryan Molony, 42, and his wedding to Melanie Pearson, played by Lucinda Cowden, 57.

The Ramsay Street favourite has starred as Toadie for for 27 years and in the final episode he will at last get his happy ever after following two decades of tragic and turbulent storylines which have included his new wife Dee going missing on their honeymoon, and his second wife Sonya dying from cancer.

After 37 years of Ramsey Street, Toadie and Melanie's marriage is the perfect way for the cast past and present to say goodbye as the pair wed in a ceremony presided over by another well-loved cast member, Susan Kennedy, played by Jackie Woodburn, 66.

Some lines from the wedding scene have been revealed, with Melanie saying: "Before I met you, I thought I was done. Finito! Send in the clowns! She's never going to meet anyone ever again!

"But then, I met you. And what started with tiger print… ..ended up being the happiest, of my entire life. Most loving relationship Nell, Hugo, Cal, you've given me the family that I've always wanted."

Ryan Moloney appeared on Good Morning Britain this morning to discuss the final episode.

He said of the experience filming the final scenes: "It's an emotional day for all Neighbours fans. I feel like my job is coming to an end right now."

He added: "Thank you so much to everyone who has watched over the time. Everyone that's watched and everyone that hasn't watched, that's maybe why we got fired. We have felt so much love over the last few months so thank you so much."

But before we say our final farewell, there are plenty of returning favourites in the finale episode including Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan who make their return to the soap that made them famous over 30 years ago.

Kylie, 54, and Jason, also 54, were some of the biggest former stars of the show to return in what was an emotional end to the Australian soap after a 37 year run.

Neighbours announced production would cease on the long-running soap back in March. The statement read: "We are so sorry to say that after nearly 37 years and almost 9,000 episodes broadcast we have to confirm that Neighbours will cease production in June."

It continued: "Following the loss of our key broadcast partner in the UK [Channel 5] and despite an extensive search for alternative funding, we simply have no option but to rest the show.

"To our amazing, loyal fans, we know this is a huge disappointment, as it is to all of us on the team. We thank you for all your messages and support and promise to end the show on an incredible high. From here on, we are celebrating Neighbours."

The final episode of Neighbours will air on Channel 5 tonight (July 29) at 9pm.
