BBC Breakfast presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt were joined with Abba tribute act “Abba’s Angels” following speculation of new music from the 70s band. Whilst speaking to the group, Charlie pointed out the tribute act were stood in the “wrong order”. This prompted a band member to joke about his appearance whilst on camera when Naga savagely shut them down.
Charlie introduced the topic of conversation and began: “After a whopping 39 years since Abba last released new music, their long-awaited return has been teased to a degree by a cryptic message posted to social media.”
Naga added: “The Swedish pop icons have launched a website and what they’ve done is they’ve asked their fans to register interest in a project which is thought to be a brand new tour and five new songs.”
Viewers were treated to a compilation of their greatest hits on the VT, celebrating their music success.
Charlie joked: “You’ll barely see the difference now as we cross over to Abba’s Angels, who are, of course, a tribute act.
“Very good morning to you all. How’s things and how excited are we about the possibility of new music?” he asked.
A female member of the band, who pays tribute to band member Agnetha Faltskog said: “Very excited to be singing some new songs after 21 years singing Abba [laughs]. It’s really exciting, can’t wait.”
Noticing the band members being out of place, Charlie asked: “It’s none of my business, guys, but you’ve got the lineup slightly wrong.
“Shouldn’t we have the two ladies at the front and the two guys at the back? Isn’t that how the normal set-up is?
The male member of the band who pays tribute to Benny Andersson exclaimed: “See, Charlie gets it, that was my argument too.”
Surprised at his answer, Charlie continued: “Oh really, was there a debate about this?”
The same female replied: “I think we ran out of microphones, to be honest.”
Then, joining in on the conversation, Naga said: “It’s always the technical’s which get in the way!”
The male band member then joked: “Apparently, I look better on camera, but that’s up for debate.”
Keen to prevent any conflict, Naga brutally shut him down, replying: “I suggest we don’t go down that route, it might not end well.”
The group and Naga laughed as she went on to ask: “Look, so what do you guys do at the moment?

“You’re a tribute band, aren’t you? So now that restrictions are easing, I suppose you’ve been working a lot more, but how exciting will this be, do you think, for fans?”
The female member replied: “I think, I mean it’s fantastic, isn’t it? I think because Mamma Mia, the first film and the second film, brought the Abba world to a whole new generation.
“I think we’ve got so many new fans that I think would love to hear some new songs, and we’re hoping that I think I’ve heard ones going to be quite upbeat.
“One’s going to be a ballad, and the other three are some more album tracks, so we can’t wait to get some new songs into our repertoire.”
The tribute act then gave viewers a peek at what they sounded like as they performed their version of Dancing Queen.
Viewers were pleased with the news at the possibility of new Abba music and took to social media to discuss the tribute act.
One viewer said: “These guys look so passionate about their jobs, even though it’s something small, they look like they love it! Can’t wait for new music from Abba too #bbcbreakfast.”
Another added: “I mean, the wigs could use an upgrade, but these guys sound great! Love their passion and I’m excited for new music #BBCBreakfast.”
“New Abba music and an Abba tribute act?! My morning is complete thank you #bbcbreakfast.”
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
