Warning: The following article contains potential spoilers from season six of Outlander.

Outlander fans will remember Marsali Fraser (played by Lauren Lyle) was expecting a baby at the end of series five and is expected to give birth when the show returns in March. While Marsali and Fergus (César Domboy) have had a happy marriage so far, the cast have teased a dark journey lies ahead in new episodes. Could Marsali’s mother Laoghaire turn up in North America to help the pair overcome their problems.

Actress Lauren previously teased at New York Comic Con: “You kind of catch Marsali in probably, I would say for Marsali and Fergus, the darkest place they’ve been in.”

With a new baby on the way, the couple will need all the help they can get and this could involve reaching out to Marsali’s family in Scotland.

A return for Laoghaire is certainly a possibility as actress Nell Hudson noted she is in book seven, An Echo in the Bone.

“I’ve not read the seventh book yet. I will read it if I’m asked to go back, which I imagine I will be,” she remarked.

“With Laoghaire, they added me more into the TV show than I would be in the books.

“They quite like adding my baddie character every now and again when they can.

“So I’m sure if she’s got stuff in the books, they’ll definitely want to include that.”

Nell added to Digital Spy she was “quite happy” playing the baddie in Outlander and would be seen to get back.

The actress confessed she doesn’t know what happens to Laoghaire in the novels by Diana Gabaldon but would like to find out.

“I don’t actually know what happens, whether she does get any kind of redemption or not,” she told the publication.

“But I’m quite happy being bad when I’m Laoghaire. I think that’s why the fans like her.”

Could Laoghaire redeem herself after trying to tear Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) apart by helping out Marsali?

If Laoghaire did arrive on Fraser’s Ridge, she wouldn’t be the only new arrival.

Fans are already aware the Christie family will arrive hoping to make the Ridge their new home but they will bring trouble with them.

Tom Christie (Mark Lewis Jones) knew Jamie at Ardsmuir prison and will bring his son Allan (Alexander Vlahos) and niece Malva (Jessica Reynolds) with him.

Malva becomes Claire’s apprentice in the Outlander books but her storyline ends up in tragedy and this could be the case in the Starz series too.

Actor Sam previously teased: “We have this family, the Christies, that arrive at the Ridge, and they initially are integrated into the new community, but very soon we start to see a lot of the history that’s between Tom and Jamie really get under the skin of everyone.

“And it starts to sort of disintegrate or decay what Claire and Jamie have built at Fraser’s Ridge.”

Tom star Mark added: “I think the Christies bring in a whole new force that disrupts and creates a lot of good drama.”

Outlander season six returns March 6 on Starz in the US and StarzPlay in the UK.
