Pirates of the Caribbean fans have unfortunately been through quite a lot over the years. Most recently fans were dealt the bombshell that Johnny Depp would not be returning to the Disney franchise amid the ongoing trial with his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
Since then, the state of the franchise has been left to once side, as the next potential film has not been announced just yet.
Various rumours have surfaced over the past year suggesting the next film will include a brand new cast and be entirely rebooted.
However fans almost missed out on Depp’s incredible portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow back in 2003, when his performance choices came into question.
According to E! Online back in 2015, the star thought he was about to be dropped from the Disney flick after his boss’s feedback about his performance.
Speaking at the A.F.I. Festival years ago, Depp explained: “Yeah, they wanted to fire me.”
Mentioning the former Disney CEO Michael Eisner, Depp explained that he did not have the best of reputations.
He continued: “It trickled back to me that Michael Eisner went on some sort of bent about how ‘Goddamnit Johnny Depp’s ruining the film!
“‘Is it drunk? Is it gay?’ So I fully expected to be fired.”
The publication added that another executive eventually called Depp to ask him: “What the f**k are you doing?” to which, Depp couldn’t help but respond accordingly.
According to the report, Depp replied: “I said: ‘Well don’t you know all my characters are gay?’
“I really expected to be fired, but I wasn’t for some reason.
“They were actually gonna put subtitles under my character, they couldn’t understand Captain Jack.”

Thankfully, Depp was kept on for the film, and managed to stay involved in the franchise for the subsequent four films.
Meanwhile, fans have become suspicious about Depp’s character, and have wondered if he’ll eventually be killed off.
It has been reported that Depp could be making a return to the franchise – but everything is up in the air at the moment.
With this in mind, could he instead make a comeback for a cameo or a final few scenes before Jack Sparrow is killed off?
If so, things will certainly not go the way fans are expecting.
With Margot Robbie and Karen Gillan reportedly ready to take on the tricorn hats, things are certainly going to be changing.
But will Depp be willing to make a comeback to simply be killed off in the near future?
The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is available to watch on Disney Plus.
