Rhian Sugden terrified by death and rape threats after apologising to Tess Daly in open letter about sexts to Vernon Kay

The former glamour girl has been bombarded with abusive messages from sick trolls on Twitter.

Rhian, 31, wrote an open letter to Tess, which was published in The Sun, revealing her regret over the sexting scandal with Vernon.

However, she has since been targeted online and sent a slew of nasty messages

A source close to Rhian confirmed to The Sun Online the ex Page 3 girl has been left shaken by the vile threats she's received.

The insider told us: "Rhian has been trying to ignore the abuse, but it's been particularly bad this weekend.

"There were six death threats and one even said she deserved to be raped.

"The open letter was saying sorry for something that he [Vernon] should be sorry for so it's very unfair.

"She's blocked many of the culprits but it's still very frightening."

She even tweeted about the trolls, writing: "People are disgusting!

"I've had death threats all weekend for something I wasn't even responsible for.

"Society has gone mad. Shut down the internet."

Vernon, 44, sent hundreds of flirty texts to Rhian, 31, and repeatedly tried to arrange secret meetings with her at a hotel.

The texts, exposed by The Sun in 2016, came six years after his marriage to Strictly host Tess almost ended when he was first caught sexting the former Page 3 girl.

But in the open letter to Tess, Rhian said she wishes she had never got involved.

She says: “I deeply regret creating a friendship with Vernon and allowing him to continue speaking to me the way he did.

“I should never have got involved with a married man.

"As time has passed I regret not being wise enough or strong enough to deal with my own issues and insecurities myself.

"The exchange of messages was inappropriate and I should not have encouraged such behaviour.”
