The scores from the Strictly Come Dancing judges this year have, as always, come under fire from BBC viewers throughout. With many feeling some stars are scored higher or lower than others, sometimes unfairly, Richard Madeley joined those critical of the likes of Motsi Mabuse, Anton du Beke, Craig Revel Harwood and Shirley Ballas when he joined Rylan Clark on Friday’s It Takes Two.
So far, the judges have sparked controversy with their paddles, from Craig’s brutal two for Tony Adams’ Full Monty routine to Shirley and Motsi awarding Tyler West perfect scores of 10 just a few weeks in.
As the Good Morning Britain host partook in It Takes Two’s Friday Panel, he too had reservations.
Richard’s first critique came when Rylan said Ellie Taylor and Johannes Radebe had a “tough” night during Movie Week.
The Ted Lasso star and her partner finished near the foot of the leaderboard after racking up a score of 21 out of 40 for their Cha-Cha.
Defending the actor, Richard hit out: “Well, I’ve been saying from the outset that Ellie for me is the dark horse of this competition.
“I think she’s one of those dancers who could actually really suddenly come through.
“If you can stay in for the first three or four weeks, some people in the past, they suddenly get it!
“And I think she’s showing all the signs of being on the brink of getting it.”
Taking aim at the scores, Richard ranted: “I don’t think she danced that badly at all last week, I think she deserved a much better score.
“I think she’s good, for me, she is the dark horse of the competition. I think we might find that tomorrow we think, ‘Wow, she can do it’.”
Attention then turned to Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu as Rylan asked Richard what they had to do to replicate Tyler West’s success of bagging a 10 score.
Molly only managed to earn a score of 34 for her Movie Week Waltz, landing her second behind Tyler on the leaderboard.

“I think all the 10s have been too early,” Richard weighed in, pulling no punches. “I do.”
“Controversial Richard Madeley!” Rylan shouted as the rest of the panel laughed before the GMB host explained why.
“It’s too early for 10s in the competition,” Richard doubled down. “You shouldn’t have them until at least the halfway point.
“I think that, so I don’t think it matters that they haven’t had 10s and I think at least she’s going to Blackpool.
“And if I were making a bet now, I’d say she’s going to be in the final.”
Rylan cut in to comment on Richard’s critique: “Strong words from Richard Madeley, but what more would you expect having him on the show.”
The panel shared a laugh but which celebrity will fall victim to the judges’ scores and public vote to face the dreaded dance-off on Sunday?
Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 6:30pm on BBC One.
