Robert Pattinson Confesses He Was 'Nervous' When the 'Twilight' Movies Ended

Though Robert Pattinson’s career certainly didn’t begin with the Twilight movies, playing the role of 17-year-old vampire, Edward Cullen, is certainly what made him a household name. Though Pattinson had been involved in a big-budget franchise prior to filming Twilight, (the actor played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) even that couldn’t have prepared him for what a global phenomenon Twilight would become.

Of course, Pattinson had no idea that Twilight was going to be such a success when he signed up to take the role. In fact, the actor has shared that he was committed to doing small independent films that nobody would see following his stint in Harry Potter. The Batman actor has shared that he wanted to teach himself how to act before being a part of another blockbuster. But, fate had other plans for Pattinson.

The ‘Twilight’ movies made Robert Pattinson a household name

Once it became clear that Twilight wasn’t going to be a little indie that nobody would see, Pattinson had to reevaluate how to navigate his career. Thanks to the fame that Twilight and its sequels: New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn – Part 1, and Breaking Dawn – Part 2 provided him with, he was asked to be in more projects than ever before. Pattinson smartly chose to work on other projects between the Twilight movies to diversify his resume and explore new characters.

But even though Pattinson had become a sought out actor by the time the last Twilight movie came out, he was still nervous for the franchise to end. In an interview with NPR, the Remember Me star shared that when Twilight ended he felt nervous because he no longer had the security of another film to do if he chose to make a film that wasn’t super successful in mainstream media.

‘The Batman’ star was nervous when ‘Twilight’ officially wrapped

“I felt a little bit nervous when it finished because I’d basically just done a movie in between each of the Twilight movies, and I’d just kind of worked consistently for six or seven years or something,” Pattinson shared. “And then when it stopped, I kind of felt a little bit more nervous to make – to do more experimental stuff because I didn’t have the safety net of doing another sequel, which would basically recess everything afterwards.”

But despite his nerves, Pattinson felt drawn to one of his first post-Twilight projects, Cosmopolis, and knew that it was the next right thing for him. According to the actor, it was so different, he knew he had to be a part of it. “But then right around that time, I got offered this movie with David Cronenberg, Cosmopolis, which – I still, like, absolutely love that movie, and I thought it just felt so against the grain of everything that was coming out.”

Pattinson has been cast in plenty of movies since ‘Twilight’ ended

Though we can understand why Pattinson was nervous about wrapping the Twilight movies, he’s clearly done well for himself. Seeing as he’s currently filming another huge franchise starting with The Batman, we doubt his career is slowing down anytime soon.
