Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) wants justice for his sister Victoria Barton (Isabel Hodgins) – and if the police aren’t going to be much help, then he is taking the law into his own hands in Emmerdale. Victoria has already been warned by the police that the lack of physical evidence and her delay in reporting the crime might mean that it ends up being just her word against Lee’s but they have insisted that they will take her case extremely seriously.
Never one to do things by the book, an impatient Robert understandably wants action now and he and husband Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) head to the area where they think Lee might reside and set about exposing him as a rapist. But could they end up making Victoria’s case more fragile?
The actors were spotted filming on location in a car park in Leeds, where posters of Lee with the word rapist branded across them were being placed by the characters on every wall and car they could find. But of course, as this precedes a trial, they could find themselves in serious trouble.
Still, Robert’s hope would seem to be that perhaps it can help other witnesses come froward who know Lee’s true nature – or perhaps it will intimidate a confession out of Lee himself.
Robert’s intentions are certainly in the right place but could this seriously backfire? As Emmerdale film so far in advance, these scenes are unlikely to air until the start of summer, which means that there is a long time for Robert to get to this stage where he becomes so frustrated that he has to take matters into his own hands.
So are the police dragging their feet on finding Lee? Or might they even decide there is insufficient evidence to charge him?
While Robert is a family guy these days, when someone hurts one of his own, that dark side is never far from the surface and if he came face to face with Lee, there’s no telling what he might do.
Let’s not forget he also has a contact book that includes hitmen and all sorts of thugs. So is this just the beginning of his revenge?
And does Victoria, who recently discovered she was pregnant after the attack, want him to go to these lengths?
