Saturday Kitchen host praised as they make acting debut

Watch the trailer for Hapless Series 2

Comedy series Hapless recently returned to screens with season two hitting Amazon Prime Video last month.

The latest outing sees local news reporter for The Jewish Enquirer Paul Green (played by Tim Downie) end up in some hilarious scenarios as he goes about covering stories for his paper.

Season two sees even more famous faces making cameos in the show with the likes of Loose Women’s Linda Robson, comedienne Ronnie Ancona, Outlander’s David Berry and Sally Phillips popping up.

The show also sees celebrity chef and Saturday Kitchen Live host Matt Tebbutt making an appearance in the new episodes.

Matt appears in episode seven in which he’s confronted outside the BBC by Paul, who tries to convince him to let a Jewish orthodox chef film his appearance on Saturday Kitchen Live on a different day so he doesn’t work on the holy day of Shabbat.

In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Hapless’ creator and director Gary Sinyor paid tribute to the chef and broadcaster.

Gary got in touch with Matt through his agent and sent over the script with the chef later meeting with the director.

He said: “Then we met at the Saturday Kitchen offices and the studio and he is like one of the nicest people that you could meet.

“And Saturday Kitchen Live is actually – during lockdown a live saver for us.”

He went on to say: “But it’s that kind of show I wanted to tap into. It’s that kind of audience because Saturday Kitchen Live do stuff for Ramadan and they do stuff for Jewish new year and it’s like they are bringing people together.

“And so, it’s exactly the kind of area I feel like I want to be in.”

Gary hailed the chef: “Matt is just so nice. He’s like a guy you’d want to spend hours chatting to over dinner and having a pint.

“In fact, after the shoot, I had a pint with him in the evening.”

Sinyor added: “There are just some lovely people and it’s just sometimes you come across the ones who aren’t so lovely and they’re in weird positions, maybe a bit too high up, and sometimes you come across people like Matt, who’s got no airs and graces and is just lovely.

“And the whole programme Saturday Kitchen Live is just lovely, watchable, funny Saturday morning. You end up smiling and laughing.”

Gary also shared some of the other famous names on his wish list, including comic Omid Djalili and Hollywood star Damian Lewis.

The star also admitted he’d written a part for Dame Judi Dench to play a wedding dress maker but sadly the thespian hadn’t been available.
